Paragraphs

I would rather live in a modern house. Although modern houses have small rooms, they have all means of comfort. They are supplied with cold and hot water and central heating. Most modern houses have lifts that enable us to reach our storeys easily. In fact modern houses are comfortable and enjoyable.

We should be grateful to our parents because we owe much to them. Our father works hard to earn our living and satisfy our needs. He provides us with food, clothing and good education. He paves the way for our success. Our mother looks after our home. She takes care of us in time of illness and trouble. By her love and kindness, she lights the way in front of us.

Foreign travel is a means of getting knowledge about the places visited. It increases our experiences and enriches our memories. It is a good thing to read about other countries but it is better to see them, mix with people there and learn a lot about their manners of life, customs and traditions. When a person visits a foreign country, he attends meetings to which he may be invited, visits schools and universities and in this way he gains a lot.

There are other means of education such as the radio, the cinema and the theatre. The radio is a source of amusement. We hear on it useful talks which are scientific, literary, religious, political and social. The cinema is a means of amusement and culture. The cinema films give us a clear picture about the outer world and social problems. The theatre, too, furnishes us with valuable instruction. Historical plays bring to life national or foreign history that leaves a great impression on us.

Last summer I went with my family to Alexandria by train. We settled in a splendid hotel overlooking the sea. We spent most of our time on the beach. We bathed in the cool water or stayed for hours sunbathing. There were many people who had come to enjoy the fine weather. Children played on the sand with their spades and buckets.

In a big city, one can live in a flat or a house which is clean and comfortable. Houses are supplied with pure water and electricity. Life in a city is easy as one can get one’s needs at the shops which are scattered everywhere. The streets are clean and paved and are lighted at nigh. However, a big city has many disadvantages. It is noisy because vehicles keep moving day and night. A city is crowded and as a result of the problems of traffic street accidents often happen.

It is not useful to have a car in a city like Cairo because it is crowded. Not a single day passes without street accidents in which some people are killed and others are injured. Some careless motorists drive at a great speed and so they run into other cars or run over some passers-by. Some passers-by are careless and do not cross the street at the pedestrian paths.

A Feast Day is a happy occasion that we like very much to celebrate with our families and relatives. On the Feast Day I decided to travel by train. When I arrived at the station, I found it so crowded that one cannot find a footing in it. Countless people were standing in queues to book tickets. People were running here and there, while others were shouting loudly calling their children not to go far from them otherwise they would lose their way.

Tourists come to Egypt to enjoy themselves. Egypt possesses several attractions for tourists from all parts of the world. They enjoy the warmth of sunshine. They visit the famous places such as the Pyramids, the Sphinx, the Citadel and the monuments of the Ancient Egyptians in Luxor and Aswan. They sail along the Nile and enjoy the natural scenery. They also watch our present civilization and go back with pleasant memories.

Some people prefer watching television to reading books. People can do without novels, as they are able to see and hear a story presented on television by a talking film in natural colors while sitting at home. Children can learn many subjects by means of television.
